Welcome, to my space.

Little Octopus

Le and I have weekly date nights. He drives for Lyft and Uber and I work 50+ hours a week during the opposite time. We try to have one night a week that we both set aside to grab a nice dinner, take a walk, try something new, in general do something together just the two of us. This last week we went to the soft opening of Little Octopus a new option at Pop Nashville.

Pop Nashville is a blank canvas of sorts. They have pop up dinners and their previous Ramen Shop is relocating to the Gulch. I've been noticing that Pop was getting a new outdoor face lift and I really wish I had taken a pic of the new mural. It's this great octopus that stretches across the building. If you've driven down Gallatin road recently I'm sure you've seen it or someone working on it.

We arrived at 5 as the place was opening and were the first official customers. I had already scanned the menu before arriving as I've had weight loss surgery about 2 months ago. It's what I do, I don't go anywhere without a plan of sorts. I'm going to eat about 1/2 a cup of food and need to make the most of that real estate. The service was amazingly friendly and full of helpful suggestions. Little Octopus focuses on shared plates and your food arrives as it's ready vs all at the same time. Knowing this, I knew we would under order as we could add more plates if we needed to.

We started with Mussels in this rich tomato-y broth with grilled bread. The seasoning was on point and the serving size was generous, perfect for a group as an appetizer I would imagine.  We also shared the Fingerling Potatoes, my husband loved these and was tempted to order another serving. I had a bite and full disclosure is that I've never met a fingerling potato I didn't like, this was the same. I also found the broccoli rabe charred and smokey delish. The chimichurri added a nice backend spice that settled in after the sampled taste. Rounding out the meal we had the Roasted Maduros, similar to a plantain but sweeter and dusted in a light cheese. The sweet balanced the end of the meal nicely.

All in all, this is a nice new addition to Pop and East Nashville. I hope to try out the lunch offerings soon. The menu is pretty simple and as a person who has a few family members with food allergies, it's nice to see Gluten Free options quickly and easily. Also, Little Octopus officially opened today. Let me know if you check it out and what you think... or just invite me and we can try out a few of the other offerings.

Date Night Win.
