National Trails Day; 2016
Saturday was supposed to be perfect. I had planned a huge day hiking with my sisters church and then going to a local festival in their town. Both were dog friendly events and I was pumped.
Then, like weather in Tennessee does, it turned ugly. I prevailed and thought I would find a quick 1 miler to hit in between showers.
But I couldn't find the trail head. I was there the week early without an issue and this week it was like I had some sort of block. So I headed up the road after I saw there was an easy two mile loop in a park I've not been in often.
2 miles is easy and I thought, sure, it looks clear, we can do this and get back to the car before it rains again. It looks so clear, I bet the rain is moving out....
Have you ever been so wrong that all you can do is laugh about it later?
But we survived, without a dry stitch on us, but we survived. Bosco, my pup, was my hiking steady. He was a trouper until the very end. I don't know if you can tell, but he was over me for about an hour on the way home.
Cedars of Lebanon, you were amazing. The trail was well maintained and had some gentle hills. I look forward to coming back when it's a little dryer and we can stop and take in a few more views.
